The Batavia Fine Arts Centre is proud to welcome Tabula Rasa by Ashlyn Garrity as the newest addition to our digital art permanent collection. This powerful and thought-provoking piece will be showcased on our beautiful Green Wall and will be available for viewing from March 1 through June 30.

At the BFAC, we believe that art is a shared experience of the human condition—one that must be created, seen, and felt. Art has the power to surprise, delight, and even shatter perceptions, challenging audiences and inspiring them to move forward with a greater understanding of themselves and the world. In today’s rapidly evolving world, where personal and collective identities are constantly shifting, art remains a guiding force, allowing us to reflect, reset, and rediscover.

Garrity’s Tabula Rasa embodies this belief, exploring the idea that all humans are born as a blank slate, gaining knowledge and identity through lived experience. As she explains, “When we free ourselves from the preconceived notion of who we are, it gives us opportunities to embrace the unknown and endless possibilities.” Her work challenges us to shed past biases and see the world—and ourselves—with fresh eyes. It is a call to embrace the openness of the universe, to view life as an empty canvas waiting to be filled with what truly nurtures our creativity and passion.

With Tabula Rasa, we hope to offer our community a moment of reflection—an opportunity to step away from the constraints of the past and into the freedom of new beginnings. Whether this piece sparks curiosity, evokes deep emotions, or simply provides a sense of renewal, we invite all visitors to experience it firsthand and allow its message to inspire their own journey.

Join us at the BFAC and experience Tabula Rasa—a work that reminds us all of the beauty in starting fresh, embracing wonder, and shaping our own vibrant paths forward.
