Monarch Academy Of Dance: The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker is a classical ballet in two acts. It is based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1816 fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It tells the story of a little girl who goes to the Land of Sweets on Christmas Eve.

For the first time ever, Monarch Academy of Dance presents The Nutcracker with a twist on the original ballet classic. To begin, our Nutcracker character is female and is the heroine of the show. The Nutcracker defeats the dreaded Mouse King and his army of mice, and whisks her away through the Land of Snow to the Land of Sweets. Angels, featured dancers from our adaptive dance program, greet Clara and the Nutcracker to welcome them to their kingdom. From Arabian Coffee to Gum Drops, and Dancing Frappuccinos, the Land of Sweets is full of surprises. Ukrainian folk dancing is featured in our second act to pay tribute to their beautiful country and culture. Guest dancers Edson Barbosa and Gayeon Jung from the Joffrey Ballet will join us as Cavalier and Sugar Plum Fairy.
